Community

More so than photography Liv for Nature Photography is a place for everyone. It was a goal when I started sharing my photos in college, and has continued as I have loved and value the community photography creates. I love discussions, conversations, and facts. I love learning and teaching. Naively, when I first started sharing my photos, I thought everyone would share that same open-mindedness and desire to learn. As my desire to share photos has evolved to conservation photography the quality of discussions has changed.
In the past several years, social media has gone from a place where expectations for respectful discussions have been tacit, to a place where if you disagree you show disrespect.
There seems to be a culture of people that think they are the only ones who can say what they want, even if it means using rude and vulgar language themselves. Which is why I want to make things clear: disagreement is part of discussion, not
disrespect. Rude and vulgar language is disrespect. I'm all for freedom of expression, presenting facts as they are, and hearing from all regardless of background. I recognize that everyone has a different communication style and that discussions can be heated. I draw the line at comments deliberately trying to negatively tear the other person down.
I try to think the best of people, but it's time to call it what it is. Comments that speak negatively about another person, with no bearing on the discussion are cyberbullying. Judging people based only on the content one can see on their profile such as age, location, or background is discrimination. Cyberbullying and discrimination have never, and never will be tolerated on any of my pages. While I try to always look for learning experiences, and try be open to the idea that not everyone saw expectations for comments prior to making them, repeated cyberbullying and discrimination results in being blocked from whichever social media page the conflict arose.
I would love to have a huge community where everyone gets along, but the more I advocate for wild horses and the environment the more I feel quality over quantity is needed.  I try to be as transparent as possible regarding what to expect with my photography, content, and discussions on my social media sites. There is no rule that you have to join discussions or have the same communication style I do. If you are open to my definition of respect, welcome to a community of strong people were everyone is truly welcome. If you are unwilling to comply to my definition of respect, no one is forcing you to stay. Here, I respectfully agree to disagree and invite you to find a community that more closely represents your values.
